8th place at Ironman African Champs

In News

With some choppy conditions on race morning the swim was shortened to 2000m.

Coming out the water 1min behind a very strong front pack meant there was going to be a lot of work to do on the bike. Whilst I gained a few positions on a tough and windy 180km, the front group was pushing hard and ultimately extended their lead.

I was on track for a solid run going through the first half in 1hr19, but still wasn’t making any in-roads into the quality field ahead of me. Closing out the marathon well still needs some work.

The new Stealth Big Energy Mix and Isotonic gels worked perfectly and provided all the easy-to-stomach calories I needed throughout the day.

It was a championship race worthy of its name, and good to experience the highest level of Ironman racing again.
